Sneak Peeks, Details, and Answers

Things have been crazy, guys! Sorry we haven't posted sooner. And that this isn't a "real" outfit post. But we're working on some technology/picture changes, so a few things have been put on hold. That doesn't mean we'll stop posting! We have many inspiration posts in the works that we're really excited to show you all! But to tie you over until then, here are some sneak peeks of some of the outfit posts that are coming up!

And, a bit late, here are my (Charlotte's) answers to this week's FBFF questions.

1. Most readers and fellow fashion bloggers value authenticity in the blogs they read. How would you describe blog/blogger authenticity?

This is kind of a tricky question. I've noticed that often, blog authenticity has to do with sharing a lot of personal information, such as the cities bloggers live in, things that Blythe and I don't want to share. But what also I've noticed is that the blogs/bloggers that I feel are the most authentic are the ones that have "voice" in their writing. Their sense of humor and way of speaking is shown in the way that they write. So I would describe blog/blogger authenticity as being honest about the way that you, as the blogger, talks, lives, what your budget is...things like that. Authenticity, I think, is a lot about the reader feeling connected to the blogger so that the reader feels the blogger would be no different in real life. That's the big difference between bloggers and celebrities, I think, but that's another discussion.

2. When it comes to your blog how do you infuse it with that true/authentic feeling?

I try to be honest, the way that I've mentioned above, without giving my location or face. So I write everything the way that I would actually say it. I work on making sure that it's my voice and personality being portrayed.

3. Have you stopped following a blog in the last three months? What made you lose interest?

I've really only stopped following a blog in the sense of, when it pops up in my blog reading list, I don't bother reading it. And that's only happened with one blog. And that was because I felt that the blog always had the exact same content. It's not very exciting or interesting to me anymore.

4. We can't communicate effectively on our blogs, something we don't live in real life...what are some ways you try to live an authentic life?

I try to live an authentic life by making sure that everything I do is something that's me. Not someone else. I knew people who label everyone and make fun of them about it...you know the people I'm talking about. This group hated one specific label, so for a while I was paranoid about how everything I did would be portrayed by them. And then I just thought, Whatever! Drawing this specific picture or wearing these clothes makes me happy and is an accurate portrayal of who I am. And if those people gave me that label, then I'd be sad they didn't get to know me better, and move on. I surround myself with people who I genuinely like. They are my authentic friends. I just re-read that last paragraph and it sounds so clichéd and What-Lessons-I-Learned-From-High-School, but I'm serious.

Okay, when did my life turn into a Disney Channel movie?

5. Give a shout-out...Which bloggers do you think are truly genuine and why?

I've actually been thinking about this one a lot. The bloggers that stand out to me as being genuine are the ones that I feel like I know just from reading their blogs, even though we've never met. They're the ones where their voices show in their writing. I know there are others, but for the sake of time, the first few off the top of my head would be KendiJillSydneyHannie, Roz, and Monkeyface. Is it a coincidence that these are some of the bloggers I admire the most? I think not... :)

Have a good weekend!

  1. Gosh, I think that bit about accurately" portraying who one is" is both the hardest and most important part of blogging. It's so easy to try to portray who I WANT to be instead of who I really am. And who I really am isn't always exciting, or full of fun or certainly not always best-dressed! Great responses to this week's Friend Friday.

  2. Like the commenter above said, authenticity is key. Since I co-write my blog with my boyfriend, it's often difficult to make sure the blog reflects both of our personalities and the like. My favourite bloggers are the ones I can relate to and feel like I know too, and they usually don't take themselves too seriously either - it's important to be able to laugh at yourself! Sally x
