Thrift | Everybody, Everywear

Sorry about the photo quality today! Today was a bit of a camera disaster. First my Nikon ran out of battery as soon as I turned it on (should have seen that one coming), then my back up camera wouldn't turn on at all (fully charged battery and all??), so I was left with using my cell phone, which explains the gray-ness/graininess of the pictures. But oh well! I did what I could, and the blog must go on!

Anyway, when I found out about the EBEW challenge today, I immediately thought of these two pieces. They're actually the only two thrifted things I have that I could actually get the smell out of, and they're both patterns, so I couldn't resist pairing them together. When I put the skirt on, though, it seemed a bit too much, since it's normally about calf length. The outfit didn't feel like me, and I decided it was the length. It felt too vintage, too overboard, and like something I would never wear. So I did a fake DIY and made it into a pencil skirt! It's simple: I just undid some of the buttons that go all the way down the skirt to the length I wanted, which was above the knees. Then, I took both sides that were caused by undoing the buttons and tied them together! There was still some length at the back, so I just tied another knot there. Just don't tie your knots too tightly, or else you'll be waddling everywhere. Ahem. Anyway. Just when I thought I couldn't find another way to incorporate knots into my outfit, I somehow do. I'm liking this trend. I realize it does sound a little more complicated without pictures, so I might do a tutorial or something later.

Anyway, with my newly shortened skirt, this outfit felt more like me, but it was still missing something, so I threw on almost all my necklaces. Yesss. So much better. It's me! Just...thrifted.

No idea what's going on in this picture. I guess I'm doing a little jig.

Everybody Everywear: Yellow

What's a post without at least one slightly awkward picture?

Top: Abercrombie/ Skirt: Forever 21/ Shoes: DSW/ Bracelet: Gift

When I found out that the EBEW theme for this month was yellow, I kicked myself, because my all out yellow outfit...already did that. Sigh. So I decided to use half of that outfit, and I picked the shirt. Then, because I am obsessed with pattern mixing (news, right?) I decided to throw in this skirt. I wasn't sure about it at first, but I actually really like it--two florals, which I almost never do, playing only with size and color.

Also, this skirt is pretty different from ones I've bought in the past. I've always gone with fluffy/poofy, but this one is kind of fitted, which took some getting used to. Since I can't let go of volume completely, I thought a good way to ease into styling this skirt would be to pair it with something like this shirt--something with a bit of poof.

Florals | Everybody, Everywear

This was a rather interesting EBEW round. I, Charlotte, saw the theme of floral and got all excited thinking, "Oooh I LOVE floral! This will be so great!" And then I realized that a lot of what I thought was floral in my closet really isn't. Like, instead of flowers, the print on a sweater of mine is really olives. Olives! What? Don't get me wrong, I love that sweater to death, but olives is a bit random. I've decided to just accept it as a celebration of my Greek heritage.

Anyway, as Blythe and I were discussing this theme, we both ran into the issue of amount. We both wanted to include a lot of floral in our outfits, but weren't sure how to do that without looking like crazy garden flower people. There's no other way to describe the scary combinations you can come up with when you combine too much floral. Trust me, I've tried it. So we both realized that, at least for these two outfits, less is more! So that's what we went with!

And since we missed Musical Monday, here you go!

We don't usually pick songs that have to do with fashion, but Blythe was absolutely dying over the outfits in this video, so we had to post it!

Polka Dots | Everybody, Everywear

21/30

I was so excited to find out that today's EBEW was polka dots! Not just because I love polka dots in general, but because I actually had something in my 30 for 30 with dots! So I was able to participate in the EBEW while still plugging away at the 30 for 30! Gosh, I got lucky!

Anyway, since today's theme was pattern, I thought, why not mix patterns? I love mixing patterns, I love the patterns on both of these pieces, so I love this outfit.

Oh, here's something I forgot to show you all in the last post:

Green grass is coming up! Spring is finally coming! No more dead, winter grass! Can you tell I'm excited? 'Cause I've been waiting for this for a long long time!

Now I'll be dreaming of green grass in my outfit pictures all day.

Sense

Please excuse the gray everything in the yard. Winter is a kind, lovely thing.

Shirt: Land's End
Dress: Dillard's
Belt: Vintage
Cardigan: Urban Outfitter's Clearance (Gifted)

I don't make sense sometimes. Blythe and I got the email about the Everybody, Everywear  thing and were very excited (it's totally brilliant), but somehow forgot. Until I logged on to Blogger today! And I threw this outfit together in a few minutes and took these pictures in the last few rays of today's sunshine. Score. And I have to say, for an outfit I just threw together, I really really like it (other wise I probably wouldn't have posted it). So out of this crazy nonsense/no-sense came an outfit that I love! I don't know why I automatically reached for a dress. I've been posting outfits with pants left and right lately. But today I just felt like wearing a dress. With no real sense to it. I couldn't decide on belting it though...I had to wear a belt because I threw the sweater on over a dress, but I wasn't sure if I should belt the cardigan at first or not. I didn't, and then after looking at the pictures, the outfit felt a little...shapeless. So I belted the cardigan. I'm glad I did because I like the second version much better, but I belt things all the time, so I wanted to challenge myself to not do it as much. We'll just say I'm making progress. I'll feel better.

Speaking of making no sense, I'm surprised this cardigan hasn't made it's way on the blog before. I got it for Christmas from my brother ("Wow! You're brother has great taste!" -Blythe) and it's my absolute favorite. You might not be able to tell right away, but the dark gray inserts are actually sheer! I love that about this cardigan. That it looks one way at first but when you take a second glance, it's totally different.
