Grau und Grün

Shirt: TJ Maxx
Dress: Dillard's (?)
Vest: Gifted from Macy's
Belt: Vintage
Shoes: DSW Clearance

Again, I was left alone with my auto-timer. I thought this batch turned out alright until I was putting them into this post and I noticed how grainy that are. Auto-Timer likes to get my hopes up by only making the up-close shots turn out decently. Okay, Auto-Timer, you win this round.

Anyway, this outfit was one of those where you come up with it, put all the items together to see how they look, but deep down you have this fear/knowledge that this outfit isn't going to work out. But this time it actually did work out! And I actually really like this outfit. The pictures are another story. I basically wanted to do something new with outfit necklines and collars, so I threw a button down on underneath a spaghetti strap dress and I do like how it turned out!

So if we call this outfit a win, then I think the score is somewhere around here:

Auto-Timer: 2
Charlotte: 1

This is what I call progress.

Alles Mode recently joined the FBFF and so here is our first real life set of FBFF questions! Gah I'm excited!

 1. How do you determine what you will wear that day?

That's actually a bit of a tricky question! It really depends on the day. What I wear on the weekends is really different than what I wear during the week. I get pretty lazy on weekends, especially if I don't have somewhere to be on that day. So to answer the question, on weekends, I mostly wear sweats, long sleeve shirts, anything I'm comfortable in. During the week, I basically wear jeans all the time! Jeans, shirts, cardigans. What determines what I wear is mostly time. But I try not to wear scarves more than once a week, to challenge myself. For the blog, I usually pick something from my list of outfit ideas that I've written.

2. Do you plan outfits out in advance for a whole week, month, weekend?

I actually used to do this! Definitely not anymore, but if I do, it's just mentally. And the only time I do think out what I'll wear for the week is mostly if I have a specific event I want to wear something special to. Then I try to plan ahead a bit so whatever I want to wear is not in the laundry when I need it. But besides that, not really. For the blog, though, I have a huge list of outfits to wear/post.

3. Do you have any specific way of tracking outfits and items already worn so you don't repeat?

Well, for the blog, we don't really need to do that yet, since we've only just started. But we might want to start thinking about methods to do that....

4. How do you discover new combinations of items in your closet?

This is an interesting question, as I've actually been thinking a lot about this lately. Sometimes, I want to wear a specific piece just different ways, so I'll try and pair it with practically everything in my closet, but I don't do that too often. Blythe has come over in the past and helped me out as well! I get lots of inspiration from other bloggers, so sometimes remaking their outfits is really helpful. Sadly, I don't have a surefire way to come up with new outfits. Sometimes inspiration just strikes. When I do have ideas, though I usually just lay the pieces out on my bed the way that I would wear them (like a cardigan over a dress, since that's how I would wear it) to get an idea of if the outfit works, visually.

5. To streamline the process for 2011 what is one new thing you can do to cut down your dressing time?

I usually don't spend a lot of time getting dress I should probably start making lists of the outfits that I really liked so that when I'm stumped, I can reference that. That way, I don't have a "I have nothing to wear but I have to leave in five minutes" moment.

If you actually read through that entire post, you're a very special person. And we appreciate you.

Happy Friday, all!

  1. love your vest!
if you want less grain, lower your iso to 100 or 200 (but keep in mind you will need more light or longer exposures)
